Scarlet Macaws are Kings among Parrots

The Amazing Scarlet Macaws are definitely the Kings of Parrots!

Have you ever seen a truly beautiful animal in its native habitat? I have, when I signed up ad went on the most spectacular trip of my life with the folks at Wilderness Ventures.

Wilderness Ventures Offers Service Programs to Teens in Costa Rica’s Savegre Valley and these programs are a real life changing experience.

I was mainly interested in traveling to Costa Rica because I have had a life long fascination with macaws. When growing up my next door neighbor kept Blue and Gold macaws. She also had an amazing African grey parrot.

I longed to see these macaws living in their natural surrounding and on the trip we saw the rare and beautiful scarlet macaw and its majesty just took my breath away.

It was like time stood still for a moment and everything made sense. Since returning I have decided to keep some macaws as pets and asked my old neighbor’s advice about buying the best cage for my bird.

She said to make sure it was large enough and had some toys because Macaws are extremely intelligent and can get upset and bored if they have nothing to do.

After getting one of the best parrot cages availabe and searching for the perfect bird I finally settled on a wonderful yellow collared Macaw named Sammy.

We are best friends and every time I look at him it reminds me of that magical moment in Costa Rica seeing the wild birds flying around in their natural habitat.

What’s So Beautiful About Eclectus Parrots?

Eclectus parrots also known as Eclectus Roratus are some of the most beautiful parrots in the world.

One of the coolest things about them is the sexes in the species look entirely different. When species display this phenomena it is called sexual dimorphism and the Eclectus parrot is a wonderful example of it.

The males are green and look a lot like what you might think a parrot should look like, but the females are bright red with an amazing blue breast.

It is stunning to see these birds interact with each other it is like taking all colors of the rainbow and putting them in the blender. These parrots also make some of the best pets of any parrots.

Anyone looking to keep Yellow Collared Macaws, Umbrella cockatoos, or Sun Conures should seriously consider keeping the Eclectus Parrots because they are really interesting.

They are extremely intelligent are able from a young age to begin to speak learn tricks. When I first saw these birds I fell in love with them because they are intriguing and interesting parrots that are beautiful and really do make great pets.

Everyone looking to keep parrots as pets should definitely check out the Eclectus Parrot and at least consider them when choosing a new parrot friend.

You won’t be dissappointed!
