Choosing a large bird cage for your pet parrot is not always the easiest task.

As a bird owner, it’s your job to provide your pet with the proper bird cage. Unfortunately, choosing a bird cage today can be a bit overwhelming. There are so many sizes, shapes and colors of bird cages and parrot cages from which to choose.

But with a little research, and a close look at your own bird, you’ll have little trouble choosing the right bird or parrot cage.

First, remember to buy a bird cage that is large enough for your pet. Birds such as canaries or finches don’t need too much room. But larger birds like parrots need much bigger cages.

As a rule of thumb, it’s always a good bet to buy as large of a bird cage as you can afford and fit comfortably in your home. The bigger the better is always true with parrot cages, especially.

Next, consider the spacing of bars on any bird cage you are considering. If you have a small bird such as a parakeet, you don’t want the bars on its cage to be any more than a half-inch apart. Small birds can squeeze through bars with more space between them. This is obviously very important.

Finally, it’s also essential to buy a well-built cage. Test the cage before you bring it home to see how durable it is.

Does the cage appear to be sturdy? Are there any sharp edges? Are any parts loose? If so, pass on this particular cage.

Remember, the bird cage you buy will serve as your bird’s home and for larger birds like parrots this could be for a very long time. You want it to be comfortable, spacious and above all safe.

By choosing the right bird cage, you’ll do your part to ensure a happy and healthy life for your favorite bird.
